Muslim Marriage Biodata Format: What to Include (and What to Skip)
A Muslim marriage biodata uses the same base structure as any other, with one clear difference: horoscope and astrology fields are left out entirely, and sect matters more than caste.
What makes a Muslim biodata different
The core sections match the general marriage biodata format guide — personal details, family details, education & career, lifestyle, and contact details. The clearest difference is what's left out: horoscope matching isn't part of Islamic practice, so the astrology section (Rashi, Nakshatra, Gan, Nadi, Charan) that many Hindu biodatas include is skipped entirely, and even Time of Birth— technically optional for everyone — is rarely filled in on a Muslim biodata since there's no horoscope calculation it feeds into.
What gets more attention instead is sect — many Muslim families check this before reading anything else on the page.
Sect and religious background
The builder doesn't have a dedicated “sect” field, since it's a general-purpose schema — but two existing fields work well for it:
- Religion
- A required free-text field — write "Islam" or "Muslim", and add your sect in parentheses if you'd like it visible immediately, e.g. "Islam (Sunni)".
- Caste / Sub Caste
- Both optional free-text fields. Some Muslim families use these to note biradari (a clan or community grouping, conceptually similar to caste, common among many South Asian Muslim communities) or maslak/school of thought — repurpose whichever is more relevant to your family.
Fields to fill in carefully
- Highest Education, Occupation
- Required fields — filled in the same way as any other biodata.
- Father's Occupation, Family Type
- Optional, but conventionally read closely — family background matters as much here as in any community.
- Diet
- The builder's diet options are vegetarian, non-vegetarian, eggetarian, vegan, and Jain — there's no dedicated halal option. Most Muslim biodatas select "Non-vegetarian"; if halal specifically matters to your family, it's worth a line in the free-text Education Details or Other Expectations field rather than leaving it unstated.
- Contact Person
- Optional — commonly a father or senior male relative, consistent with convention across most South Asian biodatas.
What to leave out
Skip the entire horoscope section — Rashi, Nakshatra, Gan, Nadi, and Charan are all optional in the builder specifically so communities that don't use them, like most Muslim families, can leave them blank without the biodata looking incomplete.

Does a Muslim biodata need horoscope details?
No. Horoscope and Kundali matching aren't part of Islamic practice, so Rashi, Nakshatra, Gan, Nadi, and Charan are conventionally left blank on a Muslim biodata — all five are optional fields in the builder for exactly this reason.
Where do I mention my sect (Sunni, Shia, etc.)?
There's no dedicated sect field, so the clearest place is the Religion field — e.g. "Islam (Sunni)" — or the Caste field if your family uses it to note biradari or maslak instead.
How do I note a halal dietary preference?
The diet dropdown doesn't include a halal option. Select "Non-vegetarian" and, if it matters to your family, add a note about halal preferences in the free-text Education Details or Other Expectations field.
